Jazmine Hughes wrote "Elaine Welteroth, Teen Vogue's Refashionista" in 2017 as she reflects on meeting Welteroth and admiring her character and accomplishments. Welteroth is a New York Times best selling author who also has won awards for her journalism. Also in 2017, Welteroth was appointed to be the new Editor-in-Chief at Conde Nast publication, notably the youngest they've had. Additionally, she is a black woman who has been very inspiring and admirable for others.

I appreciate how this mentor text shares a story about the author, and uses personal and first-person language. Before, I always considered a mentor text to be about others or reflecting/educating/informing the audience on experiences, but not typically experiences the writer has had. As a result, I have found myself personally reflecting and contemplating how the events and choices I have made could be beneficial in sharing in a mentor-text kind of way.

I believe this text was intended for other black women as it was sharing an inspiring story. Additionally, Welteroth is a brave and determined woman, and I for one feed off of other people's strengths, and would expect others to feel the same as I. With those two points alone, I think this article is also for women in general, with the hopes of building each other up and cheering one another on.

Finally, the last sentence states, "Like the teen magazines before it, Teen Vogue tells its readers what they should look like and what they should wear. Welteroth’s modest innovation is for the magazine also, in its own way, to help teach its readers how to be people in the world — how to care for others, how to defend their rights, how to see the humanity in us all. Everybody has to start somewhere" (Hughes). I feel as though this sentence was extremely strong, offered great advice, and properly sums up the purpose of the article.
