Writing Artifact

Dear Nainai,

I am writing to give you some recent updates on my life 😊 Today has been VERY busy. Unfortunately, I hardly slept last night, and as I am writing this to you, it is starting to hit me that I am completely exhausted. Like every Tuesday, I woke up at 5am but did not get out of bed until 5:10 am. Then, I walked to the parking garage, got in my car, and drove to work. Solana and I did our usual routine of clocking in, folding and spraying the towels, checking the bathrooms, restocking, sanitizing the shoes, and checking people in for their spin and/or HIIT class. By 8:30 am, I decided to take Nicole’s spin class. It was my first time taking her class and I really enjoyed it – she was extremely motivating and encouraging, which made it incredibly fun and helped me push myself even further. Afterward, I flipped the dome, double-checked everything, and clocked out. On my way back to campus, I stopped at Starbucks to get a quick bite to eat. Then, it took me about 30 minutes to find a parking spot which has NEVER happened to me before. Once I finally parked and walked back to Colby, I decided to start some laundry. Four loads and two hours later, I was finally done! I managed to take a shower and clean my sheets in between which helped kill time and knock off two pressing items on my to-do list. By 1 pm it was time for class: Contemporary Issues in Biology. I was tempted to Zoom in but somehow got the energy to go. Now, I am in English class, and it is the last class of the day – thank goodness! Tonight, I will be going to bed early.

Revised Writing Artifact

Dear Nainai,

I am writing to give you some recent updates on my life 😊 I know you are busy helping Maday out with all her speeches and adjusting to retirement, which is why I am writing this letter to you so you can look at it on your own time.

Today has been VERY busy. Unfortunately, I hardly slept last night, and as I am writing this to you, it is starting to hit me that I am completely exhausted. Like every Tuesday, I woke up at 5 am but did not get out of bed until 5:10 am. Then, I walked to the parking garage, got in my car, and drove to work because I am the front desk associate. Afterward, I flipped the dome (where the spin class takes place), double-checked everything, and clocked out. I managed to take a shower and remake my bed in between which helped kill time and knock off two pressing items on my to-do list. By 1 pm it was time for class: Contemporary Issues in Biology. I was tempted to Zoom in but somehow got the energy to go. Now, I am in English class, and it is the last class of the day – thank goodness! Tonight, I will be going to bed early.

How are you, Nainai? I miss you!

Lots of love,

Annie

“Even when you think you are giving it your all, you can always work harder and stronger! So, push yourself because this is your opportunity, don’t let it go to waste”

“My favorite thing about spin is the community and seeing how much further we can push ourselves when we are moving together as a team”

Pre-Writing Artifact:

  • I wanted to pick a piece that showed my personal growth and discovery and how I could demonstrate that in a way that was different from a basic writing reflection

    • thus, I came up with the idea of including my milestone (22nd ride at ZYN22 playlist)

  • when picking who to interview, I debated whether or not I should pick the CEO and my boss. After more consideration, I decided with Nicole because I have taken her class the most, formed a personal connection, and I find her very inspiring.

  • Nainai (grandfather) has had the biggest influence on my life and I work very hard to make him proud. He was the first person I told when I was offered the job here. So, I then decided to send him a letter describing my daily routine and help him picture and learn a little bit more about my college experience (especially since he also contributes to my success not just emotionally, but financially, too)
